What do professionals in the field of criminal justice do?

Criminal justice professionals work to withhold justice within the community they live. As far as a specific job, there are many within this field. However, criminal justice workers work in the police force, in courts, or in jails and prisons. This field is not to be confused with the field of criminology, which is a more scientific investigation of crime. In criminal justice, professionals approach crime and injustice through a detailed, programmatic approach, to make sure the law is used rightly for criminals.

What degrees are needed to work in criminal justice?

Usually a bachelor’s degree in social work, criminal justice, or a related field is required to work in the criminal justice field. However, to become part of a city police force, depending on the area and an individuals experience, there are accelerated officer training programs that allow someone to bypass college and go straight into law enforcement. In these cases, however, there is less chance for advancement. There are also associate?s degrees available, which give an overview of what it?s like to work in the field of criminal justice. For those desiring to become the head of a criminal justice department, having a bachelor?s or, even better, a master?s degree is best.

•  Is there a direct correlation between race and crime
In my sociology class today we had a interesting discussion about race and crime and despite very passionate debating we came to no conclusion. Do you think that there is a direct correlation between race and crime? this is a classic nature vs nurture question. According to the bureau of justice criminal offenders statistics The prevalence of imprisonment in 2001 was higher for — black males (16.6%) and Hispanic males (7.7%) than for white males (2.6%) — black females (1.7%) and Hispanic females (0.7%) than white females (0.3% According to wikipedia the U.S Department of justice surveyed homicide statistics between 1974 and 2004 there finding was that 52.1% of the offenders were Black, 45.9% were White, and 2% were Other Races… wikipedia noted “the document does not provide any details concerning what races or ethnicities are included in the designations “white”,”Black”, or “Other Races” my professor always lectures to us that correlation does not imply causation. my opinion is that clearly there is a relationship between crime and race but there can be a correlation between anything like married people and suicide, i I do not believe that there is a DIRECT correlation between race and crime. According to the statistics there are more black in prison than any other race but in this case Nature doesnt win its Nurture, for example and this is just an EXAMPLE, statistics show that black people grow up with an absent father at a higher percentage than any other race, growing up with an absent father can give a child a higher chance of commiting a crime, so there is a correlation but that doesnt mean that because you are born black you have a higher chance at breaking the law its the enviroment you grow up in, the way society influences you or even your genes.Thats just my opinion what do you think.
•  What kind of Justice Department would Obama have in his administration
Obama agreed that, if elected, he would have his Attorney General initiate an investigation into whether Bush and other senior officials violated criminal statutes and thus deserved to face prosecution. “I can’t prejudge that because we don’t have access to all the material right now,” Obama continued. “I think that you’re right, if crimes have been committed, they should be investigated.” However, the Illinois senator left himself an out, suggesting he would weigh evidence of Bush’s guilt against the potential political fallout from prosecuting a former President. Nevertheless, Obama said he would be inclined to take action “if I found out that there were high officials who knowingly, consciously broke existing laws, engaged in cover-ups of those crimes with knowledge forefront, then I think a basic principle of our Constitution is nobody is above the law and I think that’s how I would look at it.” What would Clinton do? http://www.middle-east-online.com/english/opinion/?id=25472

•  What to do
My boyfriend/fiance and I are both 22. I graduated with a BA in English and psychology. I’m getting my MA in English and psychology as well. He has a BA in criminal justice, and he’s an Army MP. However, he’s being deployed in July for Iraq. When we found out, we talked about what would happen with us. He said he wanted to propose before he left. Obviously, that is something we talked about before, and that made me happy. I think he’s waiting until an upcoming vacation we have planned. That is great, but I think we should get married before he leaves. When he is gone, I have no rights. The military doesn’t need to notify me if anything happens to him, I don’t have access to his finances, and if anything tragic happens to him I have no say in anything. Deployment is hard enough for a spouse, let alone for a girlfriend/fiancee who has no rights. If he is injured, they will not contact me. That is my greatest worry. At this point, I think that we should get married before he leaves. How do I convey this to him? I don’t want to be pushy, but I think it’s really important. I’m very upset over this. I love him, and I would be happy to wait to marry him under normal circumstances. But this situation is tough. What should I do?
